whose presence at the department turned this place into more than just a simple place of work. As a staff member of the department, I had frequent cooperations with student assistants, laboratory students, and master students (Thank you to all these people, as well. Their efforts and contributions often relieved me in busy iii Danksagung times. Last but not least, my thanks go to our secretary, Mrs. Gisela Alt. Her appearance at the department not only relaxed the dealing with the formalities of the daily bussiness but also brought many lovely hours at the festivities which she organized. Finally, I would like to thank my family who gave me not only the possibility to grow according to my talents and preferences but also the necessary support and encouragement to reach my professional goals.

Path Location Register for Next-Generation Heterogeneous Mobile Networks

Deployment of a global all IP wireless/mobile network is not a straightforward decision. Heterogeneous mobile networks combined with wireless “hot-spot” locations seams to be one of the most realistic early deployments. Commercial public wireless LAN solutions however offer proprietary location management capabilities compared to the traditional cellular networks. The increasing demands for het...

Mobility Management Issues for Next Generation Wireless Networks

The next generation networks must support mobility for ubiquitous communication between any two nodes irrespective of their locations. Mobile IP was the first protocol to support mobility. The process of registration in Mobile IP protocol requires large number of location updates, excessive signaling traffic and service delay. This problem is solved by Hierarchical Mobile IP (HMIP) using the co...

An efficient symmetric polynomial-based key establishment protocol for wireless sensor networks

An essential requirement for providing secure services in wireless sensor networks is the ability to establish pairwise keys among sensors. Due to resource constraints on the sensors, the key establishment scheme should not create significant overhead. To date, several key establishment schemes have been proposed. Some of these have appropriate connectivity and resistance against key exposure, ...

Active Networks for Efficient Distributed Network Management

The emerging next generation of routers exhibit both high performance and rich functionality, such as support for virtual private networks and QoS. To achieve this, per-flow queuing and fast IP filtering are incorporated into the router hardware. The management of a network comprising such devices and efficient use of the new functionality introduce new challenges. A truly distributed network m...
